Over the past 10 years, Illumine8 has been privileged to attend the largest light construction building industry trade show in the United States - the NAHB International Builders' Show®. This week-long show is a great place to learn about the latest trends in home design, marketing, business operations, construction technology, and more.
Check out a few of our reviews, trends, and advice in our IBS blogs over the years, and track how the trends and technology have changed. What will be the next big thing at the 2024 show?
Following the success of the 2023 event, the upcoming show promises to be monumental, serving as a crucial platform for professionals in the residential construction industry to connect, learn, and innovate. Attendees can expect to experience technological advancements firsthand, gaining insights into how these innovations can streamline building, construction, and design processes while enhancing efficiency and safety. Investing in employee participation at IBS 2024 creates internal team alignment and demonstrates a commitment to long-term success, and reduces turnover. With its comprehensive expertise in Revenue Operations, Illumine8 stands ready to support organizations in maximizing the benefits of their attendance at the event.
Over 1,300 companies exhibited their service, products, and brands on the showroom floor in 2023, including spotlight areas for start-ups and new products. The industry is hungry for efficiencies and opportunities to grow and identify key revenue operations metrics. Builders and remodelers of all sizes are eager for information on new technology, business processes, and cost-cutting measures, and IBS show floor exhibitors are listening. We found suppliers and vendors using buzzwords such as "risk management" and "planning." Product trends included a renewed emphasis on data solutions, with today's builder placing more weight on marketing metrics and ROI.
With Shark Tank Fever and guaranteed exposure at the International Builders' Show, the IBS Start-Up Zone was the number one place to see innovation at work. In the Start-Up Zone, 20 selected companies were on the floor, seeking mass exposure to start their innovative industry products and service solutions. As the key to any industry start-up is identifying a problem to solve, the services and products introduced at the 2023 IBS Law Vegas Show gained traction and an audience.
Did you know Vegas has one of the world's most successful marketing campaigns? "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"! This slogan is one of the more famous tag lines in modern tourism marketing. This phrase is among the industry's most quoted, talked about, and recognized ad campaigns.
"What happens here, stays here" was first cooked up in 2003 at a brainstorming meeting in the Las Vegas tourism department of ad agency R&R Partners, a much-needed meeting to brand Las Vegas for something more than gambling. After a year of research, the case study came up with this.
Attending the International Builders' Show can be a game-changer for professionals in the built environment industry- but it's not the only opportunity to learn, network, and see the latest building trends. Here's our list of the "next-best-thing" to the Builder Show in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Annually in June, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) host the Innovative Housing Showcase on the National lawn. With our close proximity to DC, we made the trip last year and saw many similar products and exhibitors whom attended the IBS in 2023. Details are coming soon for the 2024 event, but with last year's record-breaking success, it is well worth making the trip to DC.
Between the Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA), Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, and local chapters in between, These gatherings provide an opportunity to gain a more localized perspective on market trends and establish meaningful connections within your immediate region. Often, the contacts forged in these settings can prove to be even more advantageous than those encountered larger expos like the Builder Show. For those seeking to tap into these local networks, the NAHB website serves as an excellent resource, offering a convenient gateway to find and connect with your local Home Builders Association (HBA).
